This temple is believed to be one of the 108 most divine Vishnu temples in the world. Chavakkad Beach, a good place to spend your evenings is located just five km from Guruvayur. Alternatively, in the evenings, you can watch fishermen bring in their catch lay it on display on the beach itself. The annual Guruvayur Festival held during February-March kickstarts with an Elephant race; and is a must watch.

Banasura Dam

The Banasura Sagar dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India and the second largest in Asia, impounds the waters of the Karamanathodu, a tributary of the Kabini river. The reservoir formed by the dam is dotted with tiny islands enveloped in thick foliage, and with the Banasura hill in the background, offers a magnificent view. Have the time of your life zooming across the vast expanse of crystal clear waters in a power boat, zigzagging between the tiny islands that speckle the lake face. The Banasura Sagar dam with its massive earthen structure provided the fillip for adopting rammed earth architecture while building Banasura Hill Resort.



Pookot Lake

Pookot Lake is a scenic freshwater lake in the Wayanad district in Kerala, South India. Pookot is a natural fresh water lake nestling amid evergreen forests and mountain slopes at an altitude of 770 meters above sea level. It is 15 km away from Kalpetta. Panamaram, the rivulet which ultimately becomes Kabani River, originates from the Pookot lake.It is spread across an area of 8.5 hectares and with a maximum depth of 6.5 metres.Lying 3 km south of Vythiri town, the lake is one of the most popular tourist spots in Wayanad. The lake has the shape of India's map. This perennial fresh water lake, nestled among wooded hills, is only one of its kinds in Kerala.



Edakkal Caves

Famous for its exquisite rock and wall carvings, this pre-historic Edakkal Caves measures 96 ft long and 22 ft wide. You need to trek for one and half hour to hit the cave entrance, and another 45 minutes to reach the mouth of the cave. The Edakkal caves are of historical and archaeological significance, it has carvings that date back to the Neolithic era, the late Stone Age. These caves were discovered by a Fred Fawcett in 1890. He was on a hunting trip when he came across a stone axe in a coffee estate that was used by a Neolithic Celt. Fred had a deep rooted interest in pre-History and wanted to explore more. Tha carvings are estimated to be as old as 5000 BC to 1000 BC.



Soochipara Falls

Soochipara Falls aka Sentinel Rock Waterfalls is a three-tiered waterfall in Vellarimala, Wayanad, surrounded by Deciduous, Evergreen and Montane forests. It is known locally as Soochipara, where soochi means needle and para means rock. The drive from Meppadi to Sentinel Rock Waterfalls provides visitors with scenic views of some of the best tea estates in Wayanad. The Sentinel Rock Waterfall is 200 metres high that also offer a cliff face, ideal for rock climbing. Kuruva Dweep

Kuruva Dweep or Kuruva Island is a protected river delta, comprising a cluster of islands over the middle of Kabini River in Wayanad. Spread over 950 acres of land, Kuruva Island is densely populated with rich flora and fauna. The geographical peculiarity of this island makes this place evergreen with a serene ambience. Dwelling deep into this island, you can sight many attractive things like bridges made up of bamboo trees and other rare species of trees. The uninhabited island is home to rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants etc. Coming so much closer to the nature, you might be feeling Kuruva Island as a nature's gift to Wayanad. Chembra Peak

The tallest peak in the Wayanad district of Kerala, Chembra Peak is a beautiful delight and perfect for trekking. The peak, its surrounding lush greenery and the famed heart-shaped lake make it a paradise for travelers to explore. Standing tall at an altitude of 2100 meters it is the highest peak in the Wayanad Hills and provides one of the best views of the adjoining Nilgiri Hills and Vellarimala Hills. The Western Ghats of Kerala are famed for their heavenly beauty, their peace & calm and there natural wealth. An abode by the clouds, the Ghats are known to have many famous peaks in its collection but none more than Chembra Peak in the Wayanad Hills at Mepaddy. Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in 1973, the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the northeast and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich in bio diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve , which has been established with the specific objective of conserving the biological heritage of the region. The sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. The management lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest. Elephant, spotted deer. Bison, tiger, cheetah, wild bear etc. can be spotted here. Elephant rides are arranged by the Forest department.



Chain Tree

Chain Tree is a popular Ficus, which has many myths associated with it. According to one of the legends, the road up was built by a foreign engineer but the route was given to him by a local tribal youth who was shot to death by the engineer. His spirit is said to have stuck to the tree causing many accidents on the hair pin curve. Another story says that when the British first came to Wayanad, the Adivasi Mahouts took them to the top the mountains. As the Portuguese were close behind them, they did not want the Mahouts to go back and get the Portuguese. Hence they killed the Mahout whose spirit lived in the area causing accidents. A local priest later chained the spirit to the tree with a chain over it.

Once known as an important strategic location in the Malabar region, Sulthan Bathery is now the largest town in Wayanad district which is known for its tourism and commercial activities. Neelimala View Point

It is just not water, but a milky way, tearing apart the dense greenery of Wayanad forests. The Meenmutti waterfalls, gushing down and then flowing in cascades further down its course is an awesome sight to watch from the Neelimala viewpoint near Vaduvanchal in Wayanad. Reach Chundale before Kalpetta in Wayanad District and take the Ootty road to the right that goes via Meppadi and on reaching Vaduvanchal turn right. It is best to hire a four wheeler form here to reach Neelimala view point. After three kilomteres drive from Vaduvanchal, the road turns to the right and climbs up a rugged road to reach the base of a tribal settlement, surrounded by coffee plantation and pepper vines. Get down, pick your backpack, put on your trekking shoes and of course keep a good camera.



Meenmutty waterfalls

The Meenmutty Waterfall is located in the middle of a lush, moist, tropical forest, off the Ooty Road, around 29 kilometers from Kalpetta in Wayanad district of Kerala. The largest and most spectacular waterfall in Wayanad, Meenmutty is a three-tiered fall. The water plunges down from about 300 meters in three stages, and all the three stages require separate treks. The path is quiet dangerous and tiresome. To enjoy the fabulous beauty of Meenmutty Falls, you need to trek for about three kilometers from the road. It is an ideal picnic spot but during the rains it becomes slithery. You have to walk through dense foliage to reach the edge of the falls. The hiking can be strenuous, with steep inclines and rocks to climb over.



Phantom Rock

Phantom Rock (Cheengeri Mala) is a renowned place that is as unique as its names. It's an archaeological wonder that can be hardly spotted anywhere else in the world. The rock is naturally casted in the shape of the phantom skull and hence is famous by the name of Phantom Rock all over the world. The picturesque place is 26 km away from Kalpetta and can be reached by trekking on the narrow lanes. Like other places of Wayanad, Cheengeri Mala is also one of the favorite spots for trekkers and hikers. The picturesque rock is standing tall at an elevation of 2600 m above the sea level and is surrounded by the lush greenery; it's a picture perfect place for those who are looking for peace and solitude.
